In 2020, I found myself at a crossroads. I was deep in the nonprofit world, working tirelessly to support causes I believed in, but something just didn’t feel right anymore. I was chasing a dream that no longer felt like my own. It was then, amid the uncertainty and chaos of the world around me, that it hit me—I was a small-town girl with big dreams, ready to carve out something of my own. I wanted more than just a career; I wanted to create something that would truly make an impact. Not long after, I crafted my business plan, took a deep breath, left my job, and launched DJK Marketing Solutions.
A New Chapter Begins: DJK Marketing Solutions
With over twenty years of experience in marketing and events, I knew I had something valuable to offer. I’ve always had a deep passion for helping small businesses and nonprofits find their unique brand and voice online. My goal is simple: to provide the guidance and support needed for these businesses to connect with their target audiences virtually, all while giving them back the time and energy to focus on what truly matters—like family, self-care, and friendships.
I started DJK Marketing Solutions to pursue this passion and to honor the entrepreneurial spirit I inherited from my family. Growing up, I saw firsthand the challenges and triumphs of running a business. I understand the hurdles that come with managing a brand, juggling responsibilities, and trying to make your mark in a crowded market. If I can make that journey a little easier for others, I consider it a mission fulfilled.
From Marriott to Marketing Maven: The Journey Here
My journey began right after college when I landed a role with Marriott. Starting from the ground up, I immersed myself in the world of events, learning the ropes, and working my way up as an event planner. I loved the fast-paced nature of the job, the thrill of organizing events, and the joy of seeing everything come together seamlessly. But after years in the hospitality industry, I found myself drawn to something more community-focused.
That’s when I transitioned to the Loudoun County Chamber of Commerce, where I worked as an event planner in the nonprofit world. Here, I gained invaluable experience connecting with local businesses and understanding the unique challenges they face. I learned the power of relationships and the impact of serving others with integrity. It was this experience that sparked my desire to help businesses find their voices and connect authentically with their audiences.
A Love for Social Media and Volunteering
Throughout the years, I discovered another passion—social media. I loved how it allowed me to creatively express ideas, build communities, and engage with others in meaningful ways. I began volunteering with my children’s sports teams and school organizations, taking on roles as a social media coordinator. This experience allowed me to blend my love for storytelling and community building, helping these organizations amplify their voices and connect with their supporters. It also deepened my passion for helping others navigate the digital space and use it to build lasting relationships.
